"We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down."
— Kurt Vonnegut
We of the W4tB collective refer to ourselves as Weirdoes. It is a name we carry with pride and honor. At one point or another we all have felt out of place. One of the big things that alienated us from main stream society was that we were poets. Poet is always a whispered word in polite society. In the United States the word poet is synonymous with the words dissident, rabble rouser, or even criminal.
Take heart fellow poets, you are not alone in the Universe. The Waiting 4 the Bus collective is a bunch of like minded artists who try their best to work together. We have no membership cards, no oaths, or dues. It doesn’t work like that for us. All you need to do is stand up and admit you are a poet. If you write, or perform, or if you are looking for a place to do that: then we are probably the guys for you.
We run an open mic, but that doesn’t mean that all you get is your 5 minutes on stage. How much you are involved is pretty much based upon how much you want to be involved. We have a journal we publish and a showcase that we run. We even have a weird show for stuff that defies description. All you have to do is come out and play.
I guess what I am saying here is that when I talk about the Weirdo Nation, I’m talking about you.
One of my early mentors told me that the attitude for any poet who writes or takes the stage is pretty simple. She claimed it was our duty to “pull the next guy up.”. This has become the motto for all the Weirdoes out there. We want you to share your talent. We want you to shout it out loud. Are you a poet? Are you a Weirdo? Come check out what we do. You might like it.
